New York’s Emerging Artist
Laurance Rassin Exhibition
Laurance Rassin has dedicated the last five years of his life to working religiously on his art. Rassin devotes twenty hours a day to painting, and rarely ever leaves his studio. His efforts have been received with applause and recognition as the next wave of great contemporary Expressionism. Langham & Company will host a cocktail exhibition, opening night Thursday May 18th 6pm to 9pm at 153 East 60th Street. What sets Rassin apart is his ability to create an overarching narrative throughout his over 400 completed works. Each newly constructed piece is part of the entire series. His lively paintings vary from interior scenes and individual portraits to the religiously inspired, all of which are scrupulously textured sometimes exceeding 50 layers of paint and composed of vivid colors. Auctioneers and private collectors have likened his work to that of Picasso, Dubuffet and Matisse, all of whom he credits with influencing his profound work.
“Laurance’s work is extremely original, full of color, imagination and energy. I think he has a great future ahead of him friends and colleagues of mine agree…”
Barbara Cates - Associate Sotheby’s
"Laurance Rassin is without question a natural painter whose lifeblood appears to be oil paint. He attacks the canvas with an energy and gusto that is completely winning - no timidity or fear of the great white space here! This exuberance, together with the extraordinary narratives that he weaves, has resulted in a remarkable body of work. One rarely describes paintings as 'exciting' - but these are and his future as an artist even more so."
Alasdair Nichol - Senior Vice President, Freeman's Philadelphia
"I travel the globe in search of the most important twentieth century masterworks for my Paris galerie, list of private collectors, and museums. Given this, it's rare that I get a chance to see emerging art, but when do, I am constantly reminded of how little I care for it. Yet, there is one American artist that I have met that breaks clean from this often banal scene, his name is Laurance Rassin. His canvas are the best combination of old and new school; the next wave of great contemporary expressionism."
Laurent de Pass - Galerie Du XXe Siecle
An abstract expressionist by design Rassin paints from his collective unconscious rather from memory or a visual interpretation, “It makes things tougher to create, but ultimately far more rewarding. I am the sum total of everything I read, see and hear”, says the self taught painter. “Painting allows me to tap into a primal way of seeing the world, the world not as we wish it to be, but rather the world we make it.” Rassin’s energy has afforded him an idyllic approach to painting than on countless occasions has been likened to a cross between impressionism and a strong double espresso. “My color choices are depicted in iridescent shades of chunky texture that at some distance tell a story.” An award winning short filmmaker and member of the band The Jones Patrol, Rassin continues to amaze us with his creativity, taking New York by storm… one color at a time.
